About Our Conference
Biochemistry and molecular biology are one of the most influential parts of modern science and technology. Advances in biochemistry and molecular biology in the past decades have not only changed our understanding of how life works, but also revolutionized how diseases are diagnosed, prevented and treated. This is the first FAOBMB Conference to be held in Hong Kong since 1995. The program includes two keynote speeches, to be given by laureates of Nobel Prize or equivalent, and 18 plenary speeches, to be given by international leaders, covering a wide range of interesting topics such as CRISPR genome editing and mRNA vaccines. In addition, 30 concurrent sessions will be held to accommodate a broad audience. The sessions will be in ten key areas of biochemistry and molecular biology ranging from gene regulation and genomics to stem cells, genome engineering and biotechnology. A special session organized by research postgraduate students will also be included. We are particularly excited that the topics covered at this conference are broad and well-integrated. Creativity and innovation arise from the clash of different perspectives, approaches and experiences. The conference provides an excellent platform for transformative ideas and collaborations.
FAOBMB is the primary regional association in biochemistry to focus on the promotion and development of this discipline of science and technology in Asia and Oceania. Same as Federation of European Biochemistry Societies (FEBS), FAOBMB is one of four regional federations of the International Union for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB). Currently FAOBMB has 20 Constituent Members including national societies from Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and China. Representing more than 20,000 practising biochemists and molecular biologists, FAOBMB works closely with its Constituent Members and IUBMB to advance research, teaching and applications of biochemistry and molecular biology. It plays an important catalytic role in stimulating molecular life sciences, technology transfer and entrepreneurship. Hong Kong Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (HKSBMB) is a Constituent Member of FAOBMB. After fierce competition, HKSBMB has been given the chance to host the 32nd FAOBMB Conference in Hong Kong in 2026.
The 32nd FAOBMB Conference will showcase the latest and most impactful research findings in the broad field of biochemistry and molecular biology. Breaking new grounds on disease mechanism in the post-pandemic era is the theme of the conference. An exciting program will be assembled to include speeches by some of the world's foremost experts and to highlight cutting-edge advances that transform how we make discoveries and develop therapeutics. Scientists of all career stages and specialties in the region are encouraged to join us in Hong Kong to present their work.
The program includes two keynote speeches, to be given by laureates of Nobel Prize, Shaw Prize, Tang Prize, Laskar Award or equivalent, and 18 plenary speeches, to be given by international leaders, covering a wide range of interesting topics such as CRISPR, DNA sensing, mRNA vaccines, RNA interference, protein design, protein sorting, prenatal DNA diagnosis, endemic coronaviruses, pluripotent stem cells and immune checkpoint therapy. In addition, thirty concurrent sessions will be held to accommodate a broad audience. The sessions will be in ten key areas of biochemistry and molecular biology: DNA, RNA, gene regulation and genomics; proteins, enzymes and bioinformatics; molecular microbiology and immunology; cell, stem cell and developmental biology; molecular neuroscience; mechanisms of cancer and other diseases; signal transduction and molecular therapeutics; genome engineering and biotechnology; plant science and Chinese medicine; as well as biochemical education. A special session organized by research postgraduate students will also be included. We are particularly excited that the topics covered at this conference are broad and well-integrated. Creativity and innovation arise from the clash of different perspectives, approaches and experiences. The conference provides an excellent platform for transformative ideas and collaborations.
Biochemistry and molecular biology are one of most influential parts of modern science and technology. Advances in biochemistry and molecular biology in the past decades have not only changed our understanding of how life works, but also revolutionized how diseases are diagnosed, prevented and treated. This is the first FAOBMB Conference to be held in Hong Kong since 1995. Our goals are to bring together the international leaders and the local researchers in the field. The conference provides a unique opportunity to Hong Kong-based scientists. They will be exposed to cutting-edge thoughts and state-of-the-art technologies in biochemistry and molecular biology, leading to a better understanding of the breath and complexity of this discipline as well as its applications in medicine, agriculture and other areas. The conference will not only educate students and young scientists but also highlight and strengthen the role of Hong Kong in bridging the East and the West and as an international hub for higher education and technology. |
